Don’t forget that at the moment I am giving a discount to everyone who orders a scarf this month and ‘likes’ my page https://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=hp#!/pages/Cashmere-scarves-and-pashminas/209044025780751

I’ve been working away on some new ideas for Robert Burns gifts – I have made 2 scarves with Robert Burns check on them. I only buy my tartan from Ingles Buchan which is a scottish family business. http://www.inglesbuchan.com/ The quality of their tartan is fantastic.

Here I am showing both scarves, one with plain vintage buttons and the other with vintage gold buttons – which my friend said was ‘Robert Burns meets Versace!’

Even without a discount these scarves are fantastic value at only £19 each!

Cashmere Wraps. Where To Buy this Exclusive Accessory!

Been looking at cashmere wraps and haven’t found one that’s just a bit different from everyone else’s?My name is Emmajo and I have been designing exclusive cashmere wraps for every special occasion or just for everyday wear for two decades.  So read on and I’ll show you what’s in my boutique…

Cashmere is a luxuriant wool that many a fashion-conscious woman has dreamed of wearing against her skin. Its silken feel, feather-light weight, and appreciable status make it highly desirable.

Despite the glamour associated with cashmere, it hails from humble
beginnings. Cashmere is the wool or fur of the Kashmir goat. Kashmir goats are primarily raised in Mongolia, but many are bred
in Iran, Tibet, India and China. American herders have also joined the
international cashmere production market in recent years.

Cashmere is harvested from the goats during their annual molting season through the shedding or the shearing of their down. In the frigid high desert climates where most of the goats are raised, the dense inner coat guards against harsh winter weather, but once seasons change, goats begin to lose the protective layer of down.

The finest cashmere comes from the underbelly
and throat of the goats, but a lesser grade is also taken from the goats’ legs and backs. Longer fibers from the belly and throat area make the wool especially soft and cause less “pilling” when the fibers are woven into garments such as sweaters, shawls, capes, dresses, and coats for both men and women. The shorter fibers from the backs and legs are heavier and less expensive, making it easier
to afford a luxury garment.

Cashmere comes naturally in white, gray and brown, but the wool is easily dyed. The grey and brown wool is used for darker colours and the white for the pastel colours.

Garments made of cashmere were once only available to royalty because the rarity of the wool increased its value.

Kate Middleton wears cashmere wraps stylishly

Emma Jo’s Cashmere wraps are quite unique, She buys in cashmere wraps and scarves from Nepal and then appliques them with vintage silks and linens, sometimes  unusual fabrics from designer Paris  fashion houses. This makes the cashmere wraps completely original and often a work of art in themselves!

One of the other cashmere wraps that Emma jo makes is a 2ply cahmere blend scarf that she adorns with Harris tweed.
Napoleon is said to have popularized the use of cashmere wraps when he gave his second wife, Empress Eugenie, seventeen of them!
In more recent years, old and new-Hollywood glamour icons graced the silver screen, bringing cashmere to the hearts of people everywhere.

Last night I dreamt of this scarf…I’ve had some handmade ribbon, in various tartans in a box and have been wondering just how to use the ribbon to create a non fussy simple stylish look.. I think I may have succeeded… I would appreciate some feedback since this is a new style.

I’ve put it on etsy http://www.etsy.com/listing/73691153/charcoal-keeper-haggiss-2ply-cashmere …if successfull I am hoping to make them with other tartans. The tartan is made by a family company Ingles Buchan in Scotalnd. I use their tartan whenever possible because of its quality.

The tartan in this scarf is Maclachlan of old castle Lachlan. In the grounds of the old castle and on the estate of the newer castle is Invercottage an GREAT wee resteraunt on the shores of Loch Fyne. They have a super shop where you can buy lots of fine ceramics and sculptures and of course scarves by local quality artists.

weaving beginnings – a new portrait

I am starting to weave a new portrait which is slightly finer than previous ones… it is also around half the size of earlier ones…. the lines at the back behind the warp are part of the ‘cartoon’ which is for me to follow the main colour changes in proportion with the design… any other colour changes are done by eye.

the cartoon makes it look coarser than it actually will be…

the colourway is also quite soft… I will add more photographs as I manage to weave. The photo on the left is one full days worth of weaving… then on the right  after another full days worth of weaving.

new work at last!

Have been working like mad on several tapestry portraits recently … this is the 1st of many to be completely finished.

new year new work

chromatic timelines

this is the start of new work, inspired from my other love …colour! each strand is made up from many tiny handwoven pieces and represents a plant from my wee garden , ie daisy, the rose at my front door ‘brave heart’ ,pink cowslip and some others , for me its quite a large piece made up from lots of tiny pieces each about the size of a stamp. the shape comes from my teachings of the colour wheel to florists. It feels a good start to many ideas.I love working with colourways and my love of weave…it felt right to make each piece of either cotton or linen which of course is made from plants.
